Planning
I brainstormed possible names for my magazine, so I could gain ranges of names to see which one is the most effective and interesting.
Explanation of names:
I've chosen to name my music magazine 'Native Voke' because firstly, I like the sound of the name especially as 'voke' can sound like 'folk' which reflects on the magazine and makes it sound interesting and unique. Secondly, as there's no other magazine named this way, it will make my music magazine seem different but also stand out. Finally, native can sometimes link with vintage which will be the style of my magazine therefore the name will link with my music magazine and work well.
Explanation of names:
- Vary: magazine has a wide range of music genres
- Native Folk: ending of alternative and folk is from folk rock
- Alternative: one of the sub genres magazine will focus on
- Unique: magazine will be different from other magazines in the market
- R: stands for Rock music
- Native: ending of alternative which is one of the sub genres
- Evoke: meaning is to call up (a memory) which can link with remembering there's other sub-genres
- Abrupt: meaning is that it's sudden and as rock music is fast and can be sudden
- Native Voke: ending of alternative and 'voke' comes from the word 'evoke' but removing the 'e', it sounds as 'folk'
- Range: means a wide range of music and genres
- Native Rock: ending of alternative and rock defines the genre of the music

Mock Up of Front Cover
The masthead will be placed at the top of the magazine because it won't be covering the main cover image and will stand out. The main cover image will be in the middle taking the most space on the front cover as from my primary research I discovered that the front cover image is what a magazine reader see's before buying the magazine. The coverlines will be placed on the side in the middle. There won't be much coverlines on the front cover so the magazine looks simple but interesting however there will be some so that readers can see what the magazine features. I decided that the artist/band name should be placed near the bottom of the magazine so who's looking at the magazine can read who the front cover image is off especially if they are unknown. I thought having a quote or a main coverline near the artist/band name, so it can tell the reader what the feature is about therefore likely to attract the reader and lets them know whether the issue is for them. Finally, the issue, price, date and bar code will be placed on the left bottom side, so it doesn't cover or take up space on the front cover.

Mock Up of Contents Page
The page title will be placed at the top, 'contents' will be on the side and 'page' straight so the title looks interesting. The date would go under the title, so it's clear what issue the magazine is. I've decided to place a large image with a quote at the bottom and page number on the other side, so it can attract the reader to the feature and therefore go straight to the page. Features and regulars will be placed in the middle opposite to each other and in a list form, so readers can easily find what articles they want to read and their page numbers. I've put a subscribe section, so that regular readers can subscribe issues and get a discount therefore more likely to subscribe and will attract more readers. Finally, I've decided to place two photos on the bottom right with page numbers and quotes which will be features included in the list so that readers can see exactly what they are about. |
Mock Up of Double Spread Page
For the double spread page, I've chosen to place an image on the first page covering the whole page. With a quote on the side, so that readers can read a little about what the artist/band have said or what is included in the article on the second page. I've also put the page numbers in a circle shape on both pages and on the top corner I've put the artist/band name so it's clear who the artist/band are. On the second page, the article will be only one page with an image on the top right side so the article isn't boring. Also, at the top I've put a box where basic information will be about the artist/band, so that readers who don't know the artist/band can know a little before reading the article.
