Target Audience & Gap in the Market
I decided to target my music magazine to females only, because many females like rock music especially alternative, indie and folk rock sub-genres. Also, there are no music magazine which only targets women and as many women don't buy music magazines, this could because many females may not like the current music magazines as they might not be what they like especially if it's manly. The age I'm targeting is people between the ages of 16 to 25, this means that the magazine can have a wide target audience therefore it's more likely to purchased and liked. Also, the age range is more likely to attend concerts and gigs which are already targeting the late teens and early 20s. I discovered their interests which include festivals because many teens go to festivals especially after exams and during summer holidays. I also, brainstormed their hobbies which could include concerts because teens who's hobby is music are interested and go to concerts on a daily bases. I also put that some may be a member of a band or play an instrument as many teens are in bands. This tells me that they use YouTube and Twitter to promote their band. The economic background which I'm targeting is the working class to the upper class because I will price the magazine around £2 to £3 to allow the working class to be able to purchase the magazine but also the upper class. Finally, I brainstormed what jobs my target audience would be working as and I noticed that the age range will be in University or College/Sixth Form therefore they will have a part time job and have a low income therefore this supports the price range I will set the magazine to.
I realised from analysing rock music magazines that there was a few magazine based on genres such as alternative, indie and folk rock music. This showed me that fans of those music genres don’t have music magazine which just includes the genres they like. Even though magazines such as Q and NME feature some bands and artists which fall in those genres there is no magazine which just focuses on those genres. This means creating this type of music magazine it will fill the gap in the market and attract customers. Also, there's a gap in the market as there is no music magazine which is just for female and as there are many females who like music there is no magazine that are just for females and no magazine that's girly.
